The Best Game of Thrones Posters and Merchandise
I discovered the world of Westeros a couple of years ago, before the HBO TV series premièred. I'm not a fantasy fan: the idea of spells, elves and all that just didn't seem interesting to me. But my friends insisted that I read the first book in George R.R. Martin's fantasy series: "A Game of Thrones'. I was hooked. This wasn't a typical fantasy story. In fact, I'd say it's not really a fantasy story. It's more similar to a mob drama, where the irresistible lust for power drives all the characters to vicious and tragic ends.
I actually didn't read the next book, because I decided to watch the TV series as any other fan of the show. Season 4 recently ended, and I have no idea what happens next. I love the anticipation of what may happen. And by the way, if you've read the books, please leave your comments spoiler free for other people who haven't read them (not to mention ME!).

George R.R. Martin has stated himself that if he were to write the whole series over again, he wouldn't have included quite so many characters. The show opens with an innovative sequence showing the geographic locations that will be important in that episode, but even then it can be hard to keep track of all the characters in all the lands. Having this on your wall while watching the show is a great way to quickly figure out "where is this scene taking place?".
Game Of Thrones: Season 1 - Watch It Instantly on Amazon Instant Video
Want to know what all the fuss is about? Catch up on all the episodes of Game of Thrones without an HBO subscription. You can watch all of them on Amazon Instant Video right now. Coming from a writer (me!), this is one of the most well-written series I've ever encountered. It has the moral complexity and ambiguity of a show like The Sopranos coupled with the eye pleasing special effects and glorious production values. If you don't like fantasy, you will like this series. If you like fantasy, you will like this series. It's that good.

"Winter is Coming" is the motto of the House Stark, a reminder to be constantly vigilant. The colorless and slightly frayed look make it feel as cold and desolate as the lands they come from ("Winterfell").
Like I said in the introduction, I haven't seen beyond anything beyond Season 4, but I can guess that the Targaryens and their dragons become much more central to the fate of Westeros in future seasons/books. The family that once ruled Westeros with Dragons that scorched their enemies is currently still in exile, but it looks like that's may change.
When I first started reading the books, I assumed that Jon Snow would end up being the hero of the show: a misunderstood 'bastard' that everyone treated badly. Little did I know that the series has no 'heroes', and Jon Snow is just as flawed as the rest of them. As Season 4 ended, he became an integral figure between Stannis Baratheon and Mance Rayder. Hopefully his story starts to get a lot more interesting. Hanging out on the "Wall" was getting tedious.
What a long way Daenerys Targaryen has come in two seasons: a sacrificial lamb married off to the Dothraki as a power play for her brother, and now a fierce Mother of Dragons. She has a fiery spirit and a big, blue eyes anyone can get lost in.
